Artist Bio
Danielle Kunkel (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist and designer who believes in only using her creative skills in ways that can help improve conditions for all life on Earth.
Most of her personal work are educational and informative—shining light on environmental issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss, and actions that can mitigate them. She visualizes information through the combination of various media whilst using graphic design as a way to support what cannot be stated through fine art alone. Her current immersive installation series, Bye Bye Birdies, does this by exploring how climate change threatens bird populations.
Danielle holds a BFA in General Fine Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and minors in Graphic Design and Sustainability & Social Practices. At MICA, she was introduced to the world of biodesign; collaborating with organisms and learning about the potential synthetic biology has to combat climate change and create a sustainable material world. After this, she joined Ginkgo Bioworks’ creative marketing team as a brand and visual designer.
When she is not working, Danielle enjoys spending time in nature where she finds love, rejuvenation, inspiration, and of course, birds.
